Many cities and towns have at least one case where a person and a buildings has seemed to have been possessed by a force of demonic nature- a wholly inhuman force of tremendous strength.

If such experiences were to be totaled, then it appears at any one time there are thousands of demonic haunting around the world at any one time.

The truth of the matter is slightly different:

Just as arch-demons pretended to be gods in sacred scripture such as the Bible (eg a “jealous gods” is clearly a demon) departed human souls can also pretend to be demons.

When an angry soul has departed, such anger gives the departed spirit great strength. The angriest spirits can learn to focus their anger to such an extent that it appears a genuine demon haunting exists. Certainly almost all possessions are angry human spirits pretending to be demons.

The power of belief rituals to cleanse “demons”

A genuine arch-demon knows that the rituals such as exorcisms are hocus pocus designed to impress the neighbours and departed human spirits who belief in the power of such symbolism.

The oldest Catholic exorcisms used to be highly effective, simply because the specialized priest called unto the demons to come and take the spirit away. In effect, using the centrality of the Vatican to pull rank over demon spirits who in turn follow Satan and in turn who bestowed his Earthly power to the Popes.

Given that angry human spirit usually grew up in some kinds of traditional belief system (usually Christian), when Christian authority is applied, it is often more than enough to push them away.
