Background |

Wenceslaus, was born to Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor of the House of Luxembourg and Anne of Ĺwidnica. In 1376, his father succeeded in obtaining his election of King of Germany (King of the Romans) at the age of 15. In 1378, upon the death of his father, Wenceslaus also became king of Bohemia. |

In 1400, Rupert, son of Ruper II, Elector Palatine of the Rhine of the House of Wittelsbach convinced enough electors to have him crowned King of Germany in opposition to King Wenceslaus by August 1400. |
